Harry Potter – The Blu-ray and DVD campaign

The domestic and international online campaign for the DVD release of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE has involved our entire studio at one time or another over the last six months and has been one of our most ambitious projects to date.

In total we ended up creating five microsites for an integrated global campaign, ranging from a couple of fun and sticky games through to an application that put you in a Harry Potter style moving photo with Professor Slughorn and his students!

Death Eaters Duel
Lord Voldemort’s army of Death Eaters have been reunited with him and their power is growing. Duel with Malfoy, Bellatrix LeStrange and Fenrir Greyback in this online Wii game to make sure you are ready for the fight.

Yes Man bulletin board

Having had the pleasure of working on its theatrical release back in November, we recently found ourselves developing online interactive content for Yes Man (Warner Brothers) in the form of a nifty bulletin board which appeared in the film. Displaying leaflets for many of the activities Carl leans to say yes to in the Yes Man, we invite you to follow Carl’s YEScapade and learn to fly, play guitar, and dance, in our mini-games. All of these can be grabbed for your social network profile, blog or website. Play at www.learntosayyes.com if you fancy a break!

Or if it’s inspiration you’re after, a Terrency Bundley flyer will take you to his self-help site, www.terrencebundley.com, where the impetus behind Carl’s transformation can be found!

What’s been keeping us busy recently

Our blog may have you believe that we haven’t really worked on anything apart from WATCHMEN recently. Don’t be fooled, there has been plenty of other projects keeping the studio busy….

Monsters vs Aliens – Desktop B.O.B.

This is the first Flash Air application we’ve done here at PPC. We repurposed the US widget and we then used animations from the film to make ‘B.O.B’. You can download him to your desktop and he does various things, like bouncing a ball (which he mistakes for his eye at one point!) and waving. You can pick him up  (he stretches as he does so), and you can throw him and he’ll fly back at you and splat all over your screen, complete with sound effects. He’s very tactile! Paramount wanted B.O.B on desktops around the world so we created a number of international versions. Once downloaded, you can access the widget and all the content through a simple right click, and you will receive an alert on your desktop if any new content is added to the widget.

Our New Social Media Microsite

Over the last month, we have been busy building a new type of marketing tool for the films we promote. After a conversation over a beer trying to think of what to name it, we couldn’t decide on anything. And still haven’t. The best we have so far is ‘Social Media Microsite’ or ‘Social Media Toolkit’.

No matter what we call it, our first example is My-DarkKnight.com and we couldn’t ask for a better film to work on.

Here is the official blurb we put together:

To promote the DVD release of The Dark Knight, Warner Home Video International  and PPC Interactive – part of The Picture Production Company – have created a first of its kind ‘social media microsite’. Launched today, the new site will house a wealth of Batman-themed tools for fans to use on their profiles across the social web.

The social media microsite invites fans to express their allegiance to one of the key characters in The Dark Knight using a variety of cool, creative and compelling customisation tools. Turning a profile picture into Batman or The Joker or grabbing a themed skin for your MySpace profile, blog or Twitter page are just some of ways fans can engage with the movie through http://www.my-darkknight.com.

The wonderful Google Analytics has shown us that the small, but tactical, seeding we did has driven this website to all corners of the internet. But let’s not forget that the real value is in the product itself, and the fact SuperHeroHype covered it is a real testament its appeal.

I Am Legend – DVD & Blu-Ray widget!

We’ve re-purposed this to promote the Warner Home Video release of
I AM LEGEND. This has given us a chance to make some modifications based on lessons learned from the theatrical campaign, such that we now take people straight into Robert Neville’s hideout, and give them the chance to get stuck straight into the awesome mini-game we created. If you have a moment, see if you can help us push the PPC Interactive survivor score up!

Widgets Galore!

Check out a couple of the grabbable widgets we created for recent Warner Bros releases. The first was for I AM LEGEND (the passcode is 21770170 if you want to go in and have a look around):

Then we produced this one for SWEENEY TODD:

We’re loving partnering Warner Bros on the creation of exciting new grabbable media like this, working with such quality releases. Expect more widgets in 2008, ever richer in cool features, interaction and – above all – great content.
