Avatar – The Interactive Trailer Experience

The anticipation surrounding Avatar has definitely been one of the main talking points this year. Luckily for us here at PPC, Fox International gave us the opportunity to be involved in introducing James Cameron’s vision of Pandora.

To coincide with the release of the full online trailer, we created an interactive experience that allowed the user to learn more about this new world whilst viewing the trailer.

Essentially as the trailer plays out more and more information becomes available for you to access. Each hotspot contains written descriptions, additional imagery/diagrams and in many cases 360 degree 3D models. To enhance the experience further, the navigation closely reflects the interface design used within the film itself.

The Avatar interactive trailer experience has now stretched far and wide and we have an updated version with more artwork, stills and 3D models.

Wolverine lands in PlayStation Home

If you are regular readers then you probably know we have another blog called Silverscreen where we detail all our virtual goings-on in PlayStation Home.  We have just kicked off a campaign for the Home Entertainment release of XMO: WOLVERINE and thought it worth a cross-post here as we are particularly proud of the virtual merchandise we have created, namely virtual Adamantium :)

{From Silverscreen}

Following on from AVATAR day, on Friday we launched our second campaign Fox in PlayStation Home, replacing the futuristic Pandora with good old mutant Earth to promote X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. It was one of this summer’s biggest blockbusters and is now set to hit Blu-Ray and DVD this month.

Official blurb….

From today, visitors to Home Theatre will get a sneak peek of content featured on the Blu-Ray Disc. PlayStation Home residents will also be able to download a set of Wolverine claws and trademark white vest for free, exclusively from the Threads Store. The vest, the first of its kind, will be animated with slashes healing themselves to mirror Wolverine’s special ability in the movie.

Heavily experienced in film promotion and marketing within virtual worlds and across the wider social web, PPC Group is working with both Twentieth Century Fox and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to deliver this campaign.

Home is a 3D social gaming community that allows PlayStation®3 users to meet, chat, plan, and launch into games together. They can create their own custom avatar, decorate their personal apartment, play mini-games, shop, watch videos and attend special events.

About X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-ray Disc is loaded with bonus material offering fans the opportunity to explore more of the Wolverine legend through commentary by director Hood and producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter, a conversation with Wolverine creators Stan Lee and Len Wein, deleted and alternate scenes, the most comprehensive documentary on the character to date, as well as being the studio’s first ever release featuring “Live Lookup, an interactive BD-Live technology giving fans access to up-to-date filmographies and information related to the film via IMDb. Additionally, with Ultimate X-Mode featuring four distinct viewing experiences, viewers can watch the film in a multitude of ways including Picture-in-Picture commentary from the Director’s chair; pre-visualization storyboards and other thrilling design and trivia features.

500 Days of Summer – Make a Mix Tape

Remember spending hours making a mix tape on a C90 cassette to send to a special someone? It became a rite of passage for music lovers across the world left defunct by the growth of CDs and digital music, until now.

To support the international release of 500 Days of Summer, we have created a Mix Tape maker application, where visitors can put together their perfect mix tape; choose their tracks, design and decorate the sleeve and label; and then send it to one person or all their friends through email, Twitter or social networks like Facebook, Myspace or Bebo.

In the film Tom and Summer kick start their 500 days together after a shared love for The Smiths and music becomes a prominent theme throughout the film so we wanted to offer a way for music lovers to engage with the film and its great soundtrack online.

Online mix tapes have been done before, but due to complicated licensing issues most have been shut down as they failed to comply with international copyright laws.  We came across a new company called imeem which has international deals in place and a platform which allowed us to offer exactly what we wanted. We were able to tap into its database and music catalogue to provide a new experience for music and film lovers to share their love of music online.

Our lead designer has blogged his thoughts for anyone wanting further insight into this project.

DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION: Can you KameHameHa..?

For the long-awaited cinema release of ‘Dragonball Evolution’ we were asked to develop a gaming experience that allowed audiences to learn the film’s signature move – the KameHameHa. As always Fox International was looking for something a little out of the ordinary so we developed an online training game playable on both PC and the Nintendo Wii.

Mirrors – Send (Your Death) To A Friend

The MIRRORS website was one of the most technically advanced we have developed and one of the first to feature AS3 coding. Following the film’s premise, the website showed users their reflection (realised through a webcam) but with a sinister twist – it could kill them…

As a user enters the site their webcam stream (or uploaded photo) appears as if inside a mirror. The user can then apply and records horrific visual and audio effects to themselves in real-time. Their short horror movie then appears to friends when they accept an invitation to view the site. So be warned neither the movie, the trailer, the website or the users creations are for the feint hearted.
