Up In The Air – Facebook Connect Quiz

To support the international release of Up In The Air, the third film by Jason Reitman, we created a portable online quiz, based around the main character of the movie, Ryan Bingham.

The quiz takes you goes through a series of questions that relate to Ryan Bingham’s many philosophies on life. You are able to see how you compare to Ryan’s personality and then how compatible you are with your friends, using the power of Facebook Connect.

The application also featured five video clips from the film which were edited by PPC Film, and together formed an engaging and successful personality quiz.

Harry Potter – The Blu-ray and DVD campaign

The domestic and international online campaign for the DVD release of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE has involved our entire studio at one time or another over the last six months and has been one of our most ambitious projects to date.

In total we ended up creating five microsites for an integrated global campaign, ranging from a couple of fun and sticky games through to an application that put you in a Harry Potter style moving photo with Professor Slughorn and his students!

Death Eaters Duel
Lord Voldemort’s army of Death Eaters have been reunited with him and their power is growing. Duel with Malfoy, Bellatrix LeStrange and Fenrir Greyback in this online Wii game to make sure you are ready for the fight.

What’s been keeping us busy recently

Our blog may have you believe that we haven’t really worked on anything apart from WATCHMEN recently. Don’t be fooled, there has been plenty of other projects keeping the studio busy….

Monsters vs Aliens – Desktop B.O.B.

This is the first Flash Air application we’ve done here at PPC. We repurposed the US widget and we then used animations from the film to make ‘B.O.B’. You can download him to your desktop and he does various things, like bouncing a ball (which he mistakes for his eye at one point!) and waving. You can pick him up  (he stretches as he does so), and you can throw him and he’ll fly back at you and splat all over your screen, complete with sound effects. He’s very tactile! Paramount wanted B.O.B on desktops around the world so we created a number of international versions. Once downloaded, you can access the widget and all the content through a simple right click, and you will receive an alert on your desktop if any new content is added to the widget.

Watchmen: The End Is Indeed Nigh.

Watchmen is in cinemas and is, with the reviews flooding in, on the tip of everyone’s tongue. Now seems like a suitable time to take a step back five months, or maybe even five years, and look back at where we have come from. This post, we hope, will provide the definitive summary of what we pitched, produced and promoted during our Watchmen campaign for Paramount Pictures International.

PPC started thinking about WATCHMEN about five years ago, when the movie was in the hands of Paul Greengrass. At the heart of what we were discussing was the idea of how we could take the ‘metanarrative’ that runs through WATCHMEN – present most explicitly in the little vignettes appearing at the end of each chapter – and realise this through a range of different media, including video, print and the web.

Become The Spirit

The Spirit is the latest graphic novel to be made for the big screen. Written by Will Eisner and brought to cinematic life by fellow comic veteran Frank Miller, The Spirit hits UK screens in January and we have launched a three chapter online game to precede it, based on three classic arcade style games – platform, shoot ‘em up, and combat.

As we are trying to do with most of our projects now, we spent some time trying to find some appropriate channels to help promote it. At launch we placed the game in a grabbable widget on a number of high profile, yet relevant sites, for example WillEisner.com, ComicBulletins, ReelComix and FilmOnic. A few key posts like these really helped spread the game through the widget and we have seen some impressive numbers so far.

Iron Man DVD Widget & ActionScript3

Iron Man hits DVD and Blu-Ray stateside this week. And a new global widget accompanies it.  It is the first US widget we have been involved in, and the first built in our new ActionScript 3 (AS3) wrapper.

AS3 is the next step forward in Flash scripting and enables our widgets to go one step further, offering more powerful apps like 3-D gameplay and fully scalable widgets.

The widget contains trailers, webisodes, details of DVD & Blu-ray features, synopsis, images and links to the official site and Marvel’s digital comic site. The animations were taken directly from the DVD menu providing a level of creative detail not usually found within widgets.

We are already working on a number of widgets for other films using AS3, using its extended capabilities to offer a better user experience and more functionality.
